Lime Solicitors are delighted to be sponsoring the University of Leicester Medical Law Mooting Competition, taking place on 1 December 2018.
A moot is a mock court hearing where participants take on the role of barristers to argue complex legal issues, in respect of a hypothetical case. The annual competition brings together prospective advocates and lawyers from universities across the country.
With the current difficulties being faced by the NHS, this competition encourages students to consider important legal and ethical issues in respect of the field of medical law.
The competition last year explored difficult legal and ethical issues relating to a child who suffered an injury at birth. The question encouraged students to consider the interaction between medical negligence and contract law.
Charlotte Cassells and I both participated in the competition as judges last year, where the standard of the competition was very high. We thoroughly enjoyed the day, in the presence of specialist and highly regarded medical law practitioners and members of the judiciary. It was rewarding to see the next generation of budding lawyers carefully considering and analysing patient safety and ethical issues.
Shakespeare Martineau enjoys excellent ties with the University, with staff also participating in the University’s legal mentoring scheme.
We look forward to the competition – all the very best to the participants.
